Superintendent Transition

After many years of service, Linda Dawson will be retiring at the end of 2019-2020. This will be a major change for the organization. This page will serve as the communications hub to provide transparency, inspire trust in the process, and give staff an opportunity to easily ask questions and receive feedback.

  • Linda Dawson announced her upcoming retirement to the board. The board invited Rennie Townsend who has extensive experience with SIATech and with superintendent searches to meet with the board to provide feedback and answer questions. There was work to layout guiding principles through three key documents: roles and responsibilities, process for search and selection, and suggested timeline with key milestones. The board decided that the same process for internal and external eligible candidates. There will be involvement of key stakeholders to build the ideal candidate profile. The board also identified the importance of regular communications, involvement of SIATech staff where appropriate, and a robust onboarding plan.
  • Search Firm Selection: The board decided to use a search firm to ensure the best possible outcome for a replacement. The use of an outside firm will also provide an additional layer of fidelity in the process of replacing the long-time superintendent. A request for proposals was put out to eight different firms who have experience in recruitment for school superintendents. Two proposals were received. The board reviewed the proposals at the board meeting on Oct. 15 and selected Leadership Associates.
  • Oct 30, 2019 - Linda Dawson announced retirement at all staff meeting.
  • Board Feedback on New Superintendent. At the November 11 board meeting, Leadership Associates led a discussion with board members about the desired characteristics, skills, and qualities they valued for a new superintendent. Leadership Associates also introduced the planned survey process including identification of stakeholders who should be surveyed.
  • Dec 9-10: Virtual and In-Person Focus Groups with Staff and Students.
  • Dec 1 - Jan 10: Survey Window.
  • Thank you to all those who participated in providing feedback to the search firm, Leadership Associates. More than 100 staff, students, and community members participated in the search firm’s survey and in-person and virtual focus groups. The superintendent search process is currently on time and on target. The application window closes on February 3, and the month of February the search firm will be vetting candidates against the criteria that you helped establish. Current Activities in Progress

  • Application deadline was February 3 at 5:00 pm.
  • Leadership Associates will vet candidates against board-, staff-, student-, and community-driven criteria.
  • Leadership Associates will present vetted candidates to the board at its meeting on February 18.
